A recently announced innovation is worth examining for any card issuer, retailer, processor or vendor looking at the prepaid market.
On December 4, 2006, Visa USA announced the introduction of Visa ReadyLink, a service allowing the reloading of funds to eligible Visa prepaid cards at participating retail locations, at Blackhawk Network's alliance partner stores.
What made the announcement particularly noteworthy was that Blackhawk Network has 60,000 partner stores in North America, and the service would first be available at 1,550 Safeway retail locations including Safeway, Carrs, Dominick’s, Genuardi’s, Pak ’n Save, Pavilions, Randalls, Vons, and Tom Thumb stores.
